REIKI ENERGY HEALING
What Is Reiki?
Reiki is a gentle, spiritually channelled energy healing practice that supports balance in the body, emotions, mind, and spirit. One of its main purposes is to promote deep relaxation, which can help restore harmony and wellbeing.
During a Reiki session, the practitioner channels universal life force energy through their hands, helping to balance the energy fields in and around your body. Reiki originated in Japan in the 1920s, founded by Mikao Usui. The word “Reiki” (pronounced ray-key) combines Rei (universal or divine) and Ki (spirit, energy, or life force). This same energy is known as Chi in China and Prana in India. Reiki is not tied to any religion or belief system—it is simply a practice of connecting with universal energy.
Reiki can be given in person or at a distance, and both are equally effective. Distant Reiki allows you to receive treatment in the comfort of your own home.
Anyone can benefit from Reiki—from babies in the womb to people at the end of life. There are no special requirements, only an openness to receive. Reiki works with the principle that we all have life force energy flowing through us, and that our bodies naturally know how to heal. Stress, illness, or emotional strain can sometimes block or suppress this natural ability. Reiki helps to clear these blockages and restore balance, supporting your body’s own healing process.
It’s important to note that Reiki practitioners do not “heal” you—rather, Reiki facilitates your body’s ability to heal itself. The Reiki energy flows where it is most needed, without force or manipulation.
How Does Reiki Work?
Your first appointment will begin with a discussion about your health, experiences, and what you’d like from Reiki. Together, we will create a treatment plan that feels right for you.
During a Reiki treatment, you remain fully clothed and may sit or lie down comfortably. The practitioner will place their hands lightly on, or just above, different areas of your body, usually moving from your head to your feet. There is never any need for private areas of the body to be touched, and there is no place for sexual contact of any kind in Reiki. The practitioner’s hands simply act as a channel for the flow of Reiki energy.
The atmosphere of a Reiki session is calm and quiet, helping you to relax. Many people describe entering a deeply restful state—conscious but safe, almost like being cocooned. Some also experience moments of spiritual clarity or guidance.
What to Expect in a Session:
How Reiki May Feel:
Everyone’s experience of Reiki is unique. During or after a session, you may experience:
● A deep sense of relaxation or peace
● Warmth, coolness, or tingling sensations
● Twitching, fluttering, or pulsing energy
● Crying or emotional release
● Headache, nausea, or fatigue (part of detoxification)
● Vivid colours or images
● Sleepiness or lightness
Or you may feel nothing at all—and that’s okay. Reiki is still working, even if you don’t sense obvious changes in the moment.
These reactions are sometimes called a healing response and usually pass within a few days. To support yourself, it’s important to rest, drink plenty of water, and follow any aftercare advice your practitioner provides.
People who receive Reiki often describe:
● Deep relaxation and reduced stress, tension, or anxiety
● Improved sleep
● Pain relief
● A sense of harmony between mind, body, and spirit
● Greater clarity, lightness, or uplifted energy
● Increased ability to cope with challenges
Reiki offers a gentle but powerful way to support your wellbeing, whether you are seeking relaxation, emotional healing, or spiritual connection.
